Moving Forward
This week’s message focused on recognizing when God is calling us to stop living in the past and move forward into what He has ahead. Using Paul’s words in Philippians 3, the message reminded us that we cannot change yesterday, undo every mistake, or control how others have treated us, but by God’s grace we can choose the direction we go from here. Like a driver who occasionally checks the rearview mirror but keeps most of his attention on the road ahead, believers must learn from the past without becoming trapped by it.
The message explored the things that can keep us from moving forward, including past failures, past successes, fear, bitterness, old habits, unhealthy relationships, and the opinions of people who may not understand where God is leading us. Joseph demonstrated how God can redeem even what others intended for evil, while Nehemiah showed the importance of staying focused on the work God has given us rather than being pulled into distractions. Moving forward does not mean pretending the past did not happen. It means trusting God with what happened and refusing to let it determine our future. God may be doing something new, and sometimes faith means taking the next step before we can see the entire road.
The message ultimately challenged believers to keep their eyes on Jesus and continue pressing forward even when progress is slow, painful, or unclear. Whatever has happened, God is still able to redeem, restore, and lead us into what lies ahead. Yesterday may explain where you’ve been, but it does not have the authority to determine where you’re going.
